This morning, we were on a mission to make bloody eyeballs for Halloween. After I scarfed down a bowl of leftover Asian cauliflower fried rice topped with scrambled eggs, we zoomed over to 99 Ranch to pick up fresh longan fruit.

I’ve gotta admit – I’m not a fan of most Asian markets because they’re filled with all sorts of Paleo badness. Check out this can of fried gluten with peanuts!

It actually breaks my heart that my Buddhist vegetarian aunts eat this stuff all the time.

Luckily, our shopping trip was a success because I was able to track down some fresh longan to make my gory Halloween dessert, jars of Mae Ploy curry pastes, and a ton of Aroy-D coconut milk.

These 250-mL tetrapaks have been on back order forever so I hoarded ALL the boxes I found on the shelf.

For lunch, we stopped by the new 100% grass fed burger joint, Steak Out, and chowed on juicy, bun-less burgers.

Then, we drove to my in-laws to pick up the Double-O’s.

When we came home, we assembled a platter of bloody eyeballs…

…and I fried up a batch of emergency protein (grass fed ground beef with tomatoes, onions, and Chili 9000) that I served over nuked spaghetti squash for dinner.

Gotta get my zzzz’s. Tomorrow’s gonna be a looooooong day.

About Michelle Tam

Hello! My name is Michelle Tam, and I love to eat. I think about food all the time. It borders on obsession. I’ve always loved the sights and smells of the kitchen. My mother was (and is) an excellent cook, and as a kid, I was her little shadow as she prepared supper each night. From her, I gained a deep, abiding love for magically transforming pantry items into mouth-watering family meals.
