Happy Cinco de Mayo!

[PSA #1: Contrary to popular belief, you aren’t chugging NorCal margaritas today in honor of Mexican Independence Day. If you want to know the actual reason, read about it here.]

While I was peddling drugs at the hospital, I ate fresh coconut and leftover bratwurst and veggies.

When I returned to the hotel in the morning, the Nombomb clan gathered around the teeny dining table and chowed down. While the boys broke their fast, I downed my dinner of reheated leftover Damn Fine Chicken, sweet potato, and frozen broccoli.

An hour later, we left the hotel room – so it could be thoroughly cleaned – and went our separate ways. The boys spent their Saturday walking in a parade…

…lunching at Saint Michael’s Alley

…and cheering/playing at the ballpark.

Me? I slept the day away back at our dusty house. Ugh – I miss out on so much during my workweek.

In the evening, the boys roused me out of bed and we all headed to La Bamba for dinner.

I’ve frequented this popular burrito joint for over twenty years(!) but this was the first time I’ve dined here since going Paleo.

If in doubt about what to order at a Mexican joint, just ask for meat and veggies à  la carte and top your grub with copious amounts of guacamole and salsa.

Tonight, my hubby and I ordered platters of carne asada…

…and carnitas.

La Bamba doesn’t offer any additional vegetables on the menu – I asked – but you can pile your plate with complimentary radishes, jalapeno peppers, and limes.

Afterwards, we headed back to the hotel where the boys went to bed and I got ready for another busy night at the hospital.

Just four more nights of work!

About Michelle Tam

Hello! My name is Michelle Tam, and I love to eat. I think about food all the time. It borders on obsession. I’ve always loved the sights and smells of the kitchen. My mother was (and is) an excellent cook, and as a kid, I was her little shadow as she prepared supper each night. From her, I gained a deep, abiding love for magically transforming pantry items into mouth-watering family meals.
