What’s different and super exciting about this Nom Nom Paleo and Whole Foods Market partnership is that we’re not just rolling this out in select geographical regions like in the past. This time, our partnership with Whole Foods Market is expanding NATIONWIDE!

I’ve been a loyal Whole Foods Market shopper for years ’cause they make it so easy to find and buy nourishing and nomtastic food. Loyal Nomsters know that I almost never do corporate sponsorships, but I’ve partnered with Whole Foods Market for the past few years because it’s one of the strongest global brands out there that focuses on foods that make our bodies happy. I’m incredibly excited to work with them again through the month of January to help make Paleo cooking and shopping fun and effortless for everyone!

These are items I love and buy myself and I recommend them to everyone.

Magic Mushroom Powder!

Drum roll, please… After a successful pilot launch in Whole Foods Market stores in the Northern California and Northeast stores, my favorite umami-packed seasoning salt, Nom Nom Paleo Magic Mushroom Powder, will now be available for sale at all Whole Foods Market stores throughout the country!

Nom Nom Paleo and Whole Foods Market Partnership by Michelle Tam / Nom Nom Paleo https://nomnompaleo.com

Scratching your head and wondering what my Magic Mushroom Powder is supposed to do? It’s the ultimate flavor booster—just use in place of salt in all of your savory dishes. As The Oregonian wrote:

Every once in a while we discover an ingredient or technique that makes us rethink everything we’ve been doing in the kitchen. That just happened with Magic Mushroom Powder. It’s a spice blend with a psychedelic-sounding name, and while it has no hallucinogenic powers, it truly is magic, adding much-desired umami to everything it touches.

These fetching little tins will be stocked at the butcher counter, but if you can’t find ’em there, check out the other sections of the store as well. (For example, my sister found them in the Asian food section at the Fort Lauderdale store!)

Of course, you can make Magic Mushroom Powder yourself by following my recipe, but face it: These tins are cute and oh-so-convenient! If you’ve been itching to try my Magic Mushroom Powder without having to roll up your sleeves, hustle on down to your local Whole Foods Market before they sell out—they’ve been known to disappear quickly, and quantities are limited!

If you’re looking for a recipe that highlights the power of my Magic Mushroom Powder, make my Magic Wings or Magic Crown Roast of Pork…and stay tuned this month for more dishes that feature my magical (and totally legal) ’shroomy goodness. You can also check out what other Nomsters are making with Magic Mushroom Powder by perusing the #magicmushroompowder tag on Instagram! (Don’t forget to label your own MMP-related pics with this hashtag, too!)

Time to get cooking!

It’s no secret that my main passion in life (besides lying on the couch and reading trashy gossip magazines) is to encourage folks to get into the kitchen. That’s why my blog, app, and cookbooks all feature easy-to-follow recipes with step-by-step photos; my aim is to demystify the cooking process, and show that even the most intimidating-looking dish is totally doable.

Whole Foods Market shares this mission of empowerment through education, which is why we’re so simpatico. After all, cooking should never feel like a chore—to be sustainable over a lifetime, home cooking has to be easy, fun, and nomtastic!

So this January, I’ve posted my genius cooking shortcuts over on the Whole Foods Market blog. If you’re not sure how to get started in the kitchen, stop what you’re doing and go check it out here!

All of the recipes found at the Hot Bar are Nom Nom Paleo approved, insanely delicious, and prepared with real food ingredients. From Chicken Tinga to Pot Sticker Stir-Fry, you’ll find hearty, wholesome options that fit perfectly into your January Paleo jump-start.

So when you’re in a rush and searching for good grub for you and your family, pop into your neighborhood Whole Foods Market and run (or speed-walk, because safety first!) to the Hot Bar!

See? It’s already attracting a crowd! (And no, I didn’t pay these Whole Foods Market customers to pose for this pic—they actually swooped in to scoop up my food!)

At times like these, I look back in amazement at how far Paleo has come. I started this blog in 2010 because there were so very few Paleo-friendly recipe sites around. Remember how tough it was to find Paleo options out in the real world—or to even come across people who knew what “Paleo” meant? Now, just a few years later, Paleo is all over Whole Foods Markets across the country, gaining mainstream exposure in a big way—something I never in my wildest dreams thought would happen in such a short period of time. Pinch me, people!

I really hope you’re as excited as I am about our nationwide collaboration with Whole Foods Market. If you’re in your neighborhood store and spy anything Nom Nom Paleo-related, please snap a picture! Then, tag me in your social media posts using the hashtags #FeedYourResolution, #nomnompaleoxwholefoodsmarket, and #nomnompaleo—that way, I can see and share all the ways you’re shopping and cooking along with me!

About Michelle Tam

Hello! My name is Michelle Tam, and I love to eat. I think about food all the time. It borders on obsession. I’ve always loved the sights and smells of the kitchen. My mother was (and is) an excellent cook, and as a kid, I was her little shadow as she prepared supper each night. From her, I gained a deep, abiding love for magically transforming pantry items into mouth-watering family meals.

  1. How is one supposed to know the items that are yours in the hot bar. Is each item labeled? I couldn’t find specific label for each hot bar item that indicated it was Nom Nom Paleo. The hot bar did have your sign but I knew not all items in that section were paleo. (was at the NYC Chelsea location)

      1. They all did at the one I went to- but some had non compliant ingredients- I’d still check the ingredients

  2. I was so disappointed (Wholefoods Houston on Voss) to see what was labeled as nomnompaleo chicken tinga has milk in it. Also the store manager told me nobody was available to place an order for the mushroom powder so the store didn’t have any. Smh!

  3. I went into my local Whole Foods in Dedham, MA and they had nothing at all, very disappointed, just their normal hot foods. They use canola oil in almost everything so it makes it tough to eat there unless all you want is a salad every day.

    1. Oh, and no Magic Mushroom Powder either, checked the butcher shop and the Asian food aisle as well. Too bad you’re not at wegmans, they seem to be more organized and service oriented, and their app lets you type in what you’re looking for and tells you exactly what aisle it’s in. January is half over, so I doubt my Whole Foods will have any of your product.

  4. Love all your recipes and books! So happy to see and nom your recipes in all my local Whole Foods. Unfortunately, it seems that on some, they are not sticking to your recipes. The Whole Foods Market in Lynwood Washington used brown sugar in the brussel sprouts. Is that correct?

  5. I went to the austin location off mopac and William cannon. They had the nom nom paleo sign but nothing on the hot bar was paleo!! I was so disappointed and hope that everyone is checking the Ingredients 🙁

  6. Omg, the hot food bar saved my butt a couple weeks ago! It was one of those days where I had breakfast at 7, and somehow around 4 had still had not had lunch. I just happened to be on a marathon errand run, and went to Whole Foods for arrow root powder, where I hit the wall. I was ready to eat anything and surely would have fallen off the plan. But nope! I staggered past the hot food bar, and was saved by some kalua pig like pork, mashed sweet potatoes, and cauliflower rice! Never again–I now know good food in the fridge isn’t enough. Have to have some travel friendly food like nuts in my purse just in case. 🙂

  7. I live in Boise and even though the mushroom powder was in an advert that was sent to me, we can’t get it. They said it was an issue with the warehouse regionally and the can’t/won’t even be able to special order it.

I trie three times. I am really upset.

    1. I’m so sorry, Rachel! They’re working on restocking Magic Mushroom Powder next month, but the demand was much higher than they anticipated. Thank you so much for your understanding and patience!

  8. Greetings from Charlotte, NC. Sitting in the parking lot at Whole Foods on Fairview. The butcher counter had your book, but no MMP and in the words of the gentleman at the counter AND a manager “that was a one time release and we only received 12 tins. They are advertising it like crazy and like it’s an ongoing thing but it’s not. It was a one day item and we won’t get any back in.” – the disappointment is real, as well as the misinformation. Sounds like corporate didn’t prepare their locations in advance.

Stopped by the hotbar, cautiously optimistic…. One sign, three items… With sugar. Wasted a long drive for the let down. Blah.

    1. I’m so sorry! I’ve relayed your comment to HQ to let them know your feedback and to let the store know that there shouldn’t be sugar (or other non-Paleo ingredients) in my recipes served at the hot bar. I’ve confirmed with HQ that the Magic Mushroom Powder is supposed to be restocked in February. Clearly, the demand outstripped supply but they are working to fix it. I really appreciate all of your feedback and I’m so sorry for your disappointment.
