Who’s doing their taxes this weekend?

Not me! I’m busy cookin’ instead. (Hey! Don’t call me a procrastinator or tax dodger – they’re done already. So there.)

For breakfast, I prepped some beet greens…

…sautéed them in melted butter…

…and tossed in last night’s leftover Oven-Braised Mexican Beef.

Then, I fried an egg and crowned my breakfast, much like Khal Drogo crowned Viserys. Actually, I have no idea what that even means, but my nerd husband does.

We were going to be out all day traipsing around the Bay Area, but I still wanted a simple home-cooked meal for dinner. Before leaving the house, I prepped an herby marinade…

…and threw in a few pounds of chicken thighs to make My Sister’s Phenomenal Green Chicken.

Then, we spent the morning zigzagging around the Santa Cruz Mountains.  Fitbomb and I are in charge of picking up donations for Lil-O’s preschool fundraiser, and our first stop of the day was at Burrell School Vineyards & Winery.

We met some friends for lunch at Opa! in Los Gatos. The husband and I split an Opa! Sauté with lamb souvlaki…

…and a Santorini Chopped Salad.

Big-O and Lil-O ordered scrambled eggs and bacon off of the kids’ menu, and ate everything with their hands.

We weren’t terribly impressed by the food or the service, but we loved the fact that the restaurant was next door to Sierra Toy Soldier Company – a cute little family-run store that specializes in toy soldier models (duh!). There were lots of miniature dinosaurs and jousting knights neatly displayed in glass cases, all meticulously painted and arranged.

I have a feeling the folks who work there would totally dig my Game of Thrones reference above.

On the second Saturday of every month, they let kids come in and paint models for FREE.

The Double-Os loved it. Big-O aimed for realism, while Lil-O decided to splash-bomb his horseman like PETA attacks Kardashians.

Our last stop of the day was at Thomas Fogarty Winery in Woodside.

The grounds here are breathtaking. No wonder so many people get married here.

When we finally made it home, it was time for dinner. I pulled the marinated chicken out of the fridge and threw it in the oven…

…simmered a batch of garlic cauliflower mashed “potatoes” in the pressure cooker

…and sautéed some broccoli and onions.

Here’s my dinner plate:

Big-O’s hosting his first sleepover at the Nombomb household, so I gotta get some shuteye before the boys wake us up at dark o’clock.

Good night!

About Michelle Tam

Hello! My name is Michelle Tam, and I love to eat. I think about food all the time. It borders on obsession. I’ve always loved the sights and smells of the kitchen. My mother was (and is) an excellent cook, and as a kid, I was her little shadow as she prepared supper each night. From her, I gained a deep, abiding love for magically transforming pantry items into mouth-watering family meals.
