But before we get to the eats, I’ve got yet another book event to announce! Besides my upcoming Q&A and signing at the Whole Foods Market Fresno, I’ll also be at Whole Foods Market El Segundo on January 31st, 2015 from 11 am to 1 pm!

Come say hello and I’ll happily scrawl all over your cookbooks (which you can bring in or purchase at the store). I’ll even hand out Nom Nom Paleo action figures and exclusive knee-high socks to attendees while supplies last. Plus, the store will be completely blinged out with Nom Nom Paleo picks, and the prepared food section will be serving Paleo noms, too. Just RSVP here so I know how much Nom Nom Paleo swag to bring!

Now, back to one of my favorite brunch items of all time: my Paleo Sausage Egg McMuffin!

What? Can’t find Whole30-compliant sausage? Go make your own, MacGyver! Here are some of my favorite sausage recipes:

P.S. For those of you Whole30ers wondering if this recipe’s SWYPO (Sex With Your Pants On), check out what Melissa and Dallas Hartwig have to say on the topic:

To help you critically evaluate whether you’re attempting to engage in SWYPO, ask yourself this question. Am I trying to exactly duplicate or recreate the poor food choice with “approved” ingredients, or am I merely looking for a healthier, more nutritious substitution for that food?

In the case of Paleo desserts, it’s a straight swap. You’re desperately trying to duplicate the sweet treats you know and love in a way that’s still technically Paleo. But if you’re looking for a sandwich substitute, and you decide to use a lettuce leaf or a slice of roasted sweet potato, well, that’s a different story. Spaghetti squash for pasta, a portobello mushroom cap for a burger bun, or egg and spinach “muffins” for traditional muffins are all examples of perfectly healthy and appropriate substitutions during your Whole30.  (Another tip: If you’re subbing something unhealthy with vegetables or high-quality meat, that’s almost certainly a thumbs-up.)

Per the Hartwigs, context matters. Here, we’re subbing out English muffins for good ol’ eggs—so there’s definitely no pants-on action here. You know what I mean.

And if you still think this is too SWYPO-y, here’s a pro tip: just don’t stack the sausage between the eggs. Eat them side-by-side, and call this dish “eggs and breakfast sausage.” I’m pretty sure that’s allowed.

About Michelle Tam

Hello! My name is Michelle Tam, and I love to eat. I think about food all the time. It borders on obsession. I’ve always loved the sights and smells of the kitchen. My mother was (and is) an excellent cook, and as a kid, I was her little shadow as she prepared supper each night. From her, I gained a deep, abiding love for magically transforming pantry items into mouth-watering family meals.
