Right before Christmas, I proudly announced the release of an update to the Nom Nom Paleo iPad® cookbook app. Unfortunately, there was an unforeseen glitch: The wrong version of the app had been inadvertently submitted to Apple for approval. And the company’s App Store review team was shutting down for the holidays. Argh.
So for the past two weeks, we (and you) have been stuck with an old version of the app, without all the new goodies we promised. Double argh. We can’t say sorry enough times to make this right, but thanks for bearing with us anyway.
Thankfully, with the App Store team back in action, we got word late yesterday that our update — the real one! — has been approved by the good folks at Apple. And now, version 1.5 of the Nom Nom Paleo app is finally live!
So what does this mean for those of you who own an iPad or iPad Mini? Keep reading for the full scoop!
Here’s what’s new in this latest version of the Nom Nom Paleo iPad app:
First and foremost, the app has been refreshed with 15 new recipes, including app-only exclusives like Lazy Devils…
…and Walnut Prawns.
We’ve also included new features, like a brighter background and an easy-to-access link to popular Paleo recipe communities like Chowstalker and the Foodee.
But I suspect that the most exciting news for many of you is that WE’VE UNLOCKED ALL THE PREMIUM RECIPES! There are no more in-app purchases to buy. When you update the app through iTunes (or, if you don’t already own the app, when you purchase it), you’ll now have access to all 128 recipes — along with all of the app’s incredible features, including an interactive shopping list, an extensive “Paleo 101” guide, a 30-day meal plan, and much, much more.
As many of you know, in previous versions of the app, we made 53 recipes available upon download. The idea was that if you liked these “Starter Set” recipes, you could buy up to 60 additional recipes as in-app purchases — but if you didn’t, you weren’t obligated to spend more. We tried to keep things flexible and cheap for users; under the “in-app purchase” model, the price for unlocking all 113 recipes in our super-immersive and interactive app was less than $11 — far less than what most comparable e-books and traditional cookbooks cost.
But it turns out that some users didn’t care for this approach, and made their views clear to us (some nicely, others not-so-nicely). In light of their feedback, we decided to make a change.
Now, if you haven’t previously purchased the app, you can get the entire cookbook app for just $5.99US. (And if you already own it, with this update, you’ll get all the extras you didn’t have before — plus the new recipes!) As you can imagine, this isn’t exactly a profit-maximizing move for us, but: (1) we’re money-stupid, and (2) we’re passionate about our app and our readers, and we can’t wait to get these recipes to you.

Remember: The update is 100% free for those of you who already own the app — and now, more than ever, it’s a steal for those of you who are new iPad owners!
Oh, and by the way, if you neglected to pick up a holiday gift for someone close to you, click here to buy them a copy of my app! (But make sure they have an iPad or iPad Mini, or your gift’ll be a dud.)
One last thing: From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to those of you who’ve supported us through the development and launch of our app. It’s been a crazy journey. We really had no idea what we were getting ourselves into when we decided to dip into our savings to self-finance and self-develop all the content for this cookbook app, and the road’s been rocky at times.
But thanks to you, the Nom Nom Paleo app has been a bestseller, and after eight months, it still remains solidly in the top ten list of paid iPad apps in the Food & Drink category! Woo-hoo!
We hope that you’ll love this version of our app as much as we do. And if you do, PLEASE go rate and review the app at the App Store — it makes a huge difference.
