Today was an awesome day in the neighborhood for three big reasons:

First up: I won the Best Special Diets Blog Award in the 2012 Saveur Food Blog Awards!

From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU for your votes! I’m shocked, tickled, honored, flattered, embarassed – you name it! As clichéd as it sounds, I was just honored to be nominated because the other contenders are awe-inspiring.

Please check them out:

Second bit of sunshine: Our insurance adjuster informed us that an independent lab concluded that manufacturer error caused the water filter to crack and flood our house. Phew!

And last, but not least:The latest version of the Nom Nom Paleo app, which is compatible with 1st generation iPads, is now available for download. Get it here.

Now let’s check out my eats for the day:

On my first night back at the hospital, I chugged down a large thermos of Jacob’s Wonderbar with heavy cream. As you might’ve surmised, I was pleasantly wired all night.

My grub at work included leftover bacon and spinach salad…

Damn Fine Chicken

…and some dark chocolate.

[On a non-food related note, I’ve decided to be more physically active at work. While I’m burning the midnight oil at the pharmacy, I usually spend 10 hours a night sitting on my booty. However, after reading this article by Melicious, I made a vow to get up and move every hour on the hour at the hospital. For example: I might run to the bathroom and perform some air squats like Tim Ferris, skip up and down the stairs, or do some pushups against the bathroom sink. My hubby pointed out how sitting kills you slowly here and here (a year ago!), but I’m a late adopter. (Yes, dear – you were right.)]

In the morning, I hustled the kiddos to school before relaxing with my iPhone. I checked my tweets and this one made me squeal audibly:

Woohoo to our  Best Special Diets Blog:! See all the winners: https://bit.ly/JFmZJ8

After calling and messaging my favorite peeps to scream some more, I got ready for bed and conked out for the day.

When I woke up in the evening, I prepared dinner in our glamorous kitchenette.

I seasoned and greased a bunch of asparagus…

…that I stuck under the broiler…

…pan-fried some potatoes in ghee for the boys (Bill addresses the Paleo-ness of potatoes in this post)…

…seared a package of Let’s Be Frank bratwurst…

…and sautéd baby spinach…

…and mushrooms in the pan grease.

Here’s my dinner plate:

After we tucked the boys in bed…

…my hubby and I celebrated all our good news by sharing a frozen Espresso and Dark Chocolate PaleoKrunch bar.

Then, I packed my grub for work and set off into the night.

See? Good things await if you persevere. Geez, that’s so fortune cookie-like but I don’t care.

About Michelle Tam

Hello! My name is Michelle Tam, and I love to eat. I think about food all the time. It borders on obsession. I’ve always loved the sights and smells of the kitchen. My mother was (and is) an excellent cook, and as a kid, I was her little shadow as she prepared supper each night. From her, I gained a deep, abiding love for magically transforming pantry items into mouth-watering family meals.
